If choosing DJ Harvey as the guest record-spinner for its fourth issue release party is any indication, the magazine Sleeve is in it for the long haul — Harvey's not much of a draw for the Von Dutched-up, fly-by-night glossy readers. The old-school sound, which Harvey's been flaunting since the mid-'80s, is more in keeping with classic NYC DJs such as the Paradise Garage's Larry Levan and the Loft's David Mancuso. Harvey finds deep disco grooves in Moodyman and MFSB records alike, flawlessly mixing them 'til dawn. And while his residence at Moonshadows of Malibu continues unabated, the drive to Santa Monica and Seward seems a lot more manageable. (PO)

Sleeve Magazine Celebrates Issue Four
On Wednesday, March 24, 2004, join Sleeve Magazine and friends in celebrating the launch of its highly anticipated fourth issue and get down in the name of independent media at this special edition of Headinghome (formerly System), located at the intimate Hollywood Canteen.
To commemorate the occasion, the one and only DJ Harvey will take to the patio decks for an exclusive set with jock support from local darling Lillyanne. Inside by the bar, treat yourself to a cocktail and a taste of dub and tech with Headinghome Recordings’ own Dubloner and the always eclectic DJ Electra. This event will reach capacity so please arrive early.
Sleeve, a modern lifestyle magazine, continues its trek down the road less traveled by other rags of its kind and furthers its mission to provide honest journalism and diverse content with issue four. Come inside and see what we’ve got up our Sleeves. Open your ears to the exotic sound of the west London broken beat collective, Bugz in the Attic, get up close and personal with production phenom Lance DeSardi (a.k.a. Landshark) and find out why the Texan native Eddie Spettro has been topping charts around the globe. Quench your thirst for quality tech house with an inside look at Robin Porter and his Immigrant Industries, get acquainted with techno pioneer Bryan Zentz as he launches his new Disruptor imprint and break down the elusive phenomenon known as the white label. We lean into the political side of life with a follow-up on the California Governator, take a peek into the exclusive world of The Hamptons International Film Festival and catch up with Frank Van Delong in part three of Scalawag Nights. Much more is inside including film, literature, music and event reviews so visit us at www.mysleeve.com (http://www.mysleeve.com) <http://www.mysleeve.com/> and get informed.
The Hollywood Canteen is located at 1006 Seward Street, just south of Santa Monica Boulevard in Hollywood. Cover is $5 before 11:00 pm and $10 afterwards. Please RSVP to read@mysleeve.com for reduced admission and remember to arrive early.
