THat fender rhodes sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do most of contemporary house tracks get there fender rhodes sound from??? Are they real rhodes, or
other????

Im having a hard time getting the right rhodes sound, allthough i dont want to use it to much because its starting to get played out.

I'm pretty sure Louis Benedetti and MAW use a real one. I have a real one, but i mainly use that for live only, as the signal to noise ratio isnt that hot.
Logic comes with an EVP88 Virtual/Audio Instrument, that has some nice ones with some nice tweakable features. I also use the access virus one as well, very warm, good for chord progressions, not so good for soloing.
The better Yamaha and Kurtzweil keyboards now come with some very realistic sounding patches now. I always wonder what took so long to get a good fake rhodes patch developed.

Im having a hard time getting the right rhodes sound, allthough i dont want to use it to much because its starting to get played out. Try putting a lot of Chorus and Phaser effects on the (EP)sound as well as reverb( the right amount of reverb).
It works for me.
you will get the sound I think you are looking for by adjusting the rate on the phase and chorus effect.

The EVP73 or the 88 I think does a great job at emulating the real one. It's got the stereo phase effect to make it automatically pan left and right, as well as adjusting the "bell" sound etc. I've played on an original suitcase 73 and I can't really tell the difference.

It must be a matter of taste, cause aint impressed by the EVP at all. I used a couple of time, but it just wont hang in to the mix. It sounds very thin, playing soloos is out of the question because of all sorts of ugle attack clicks.

Its a nice attempt, but not good enough to use it in a track in a prominent way

Although, I know that Quentin Harris uses it as well and his stuff doesn't sound thin at all.

Kenny It also depends on the way you want to use the EVP, playing solo's nice sweeps with long decays ala Ahmad Jamal are just impossible with the EVP. SOme chords dancing around layered with some strings and other sounds will work fine though.

But its still like i said, the evp is good for steady chords on the back ground, but not for solo's and more exentric things.

I must say that your rhodes sounds 10 times better then when i use it :( damn i suck

I have a Rhodes Mark II and the damn thing is heavy. Plus I need to get it seviced. It ain't soundin' too good. :( I love hooking it up to my Small Stone and into my Crate XLP pre-amp with the stereo chorus on it. I live that Billy Joel "Just the way you are" sounding EP with the heavy phasers. I also have a Voce Electric Piano sound module that sounds pretty good as far as a Wurlie goes. Peace.

a lot of a good fender rhodes sound comes from playing technique...furthermore a rhodes is almost never DI'ed, so you need some kind of amp or amp-sim behind it to get that "live" rhodes sound.... although it's difficult to play a good rhodes style with a synth-keyboard, the keys of a real rhodes need a lot of pressure so you play different...

i like the rhodes from lounge lizard, especially when combined with something like Amplitube amp-sim or the free ampsims that can be found on the net...some tremolo on it etc...

but, samples are just as good most of the time..the ultimate sample-based rhodes is scarbee's EVP74..... reading the reviews it even sounds better than the modelling-sims...

a lot of the times i go back to one of the simples rhodes emu's: the free MDA epiano

I use a Roland 1080 with the keyboards of the 70 & 80's and the house cards. It has tons of rhodes shounds. IMHO it's pretty dam good....

Yes the Keyboards of the 60s and 70s card is really good (not for the synths though). It doesn't get much better for ROMs. A lot of those cards suck, not to mention the built in sounds, but that one is totally usable. Also the Studio card has some great sounds.

I have the JV1080 with the 60's and 70's card as well and really really like the rhodes sounds a lot. I suppose you can't have too many.

try to find the "plugsound keyboard collection"
plugin , its a vst and it worked pretty well on all kind of key sounds ...
also the lounge lizard vst is pretty good in emulating rhodes and wurlis , its a bit more dirty in its sound than the evp stuff ...

I use LoungeLizard a VSTi from Applied Acoustics, I have never used a real Fender Rhodes so I can't compare the two but I am very satisfied with the results I get, and the reviews it has recieved are excellent.
