Okay, good sapients, here's my problems, followed by my setup.
1) When I play through the computer, I get nasty-sounding bass-surges that usually will clip the levels when I record. This is only when I'm using the tables/decks and the mixer through the computer. When I'm in a regular set up, they are fine.
2) I'm recording in SoundForge 6.0 and when I play back what I have recorded, there are usually breaks or ugly sound distortions (the song will sound as if it is either cutting out, speeding up or slowing down.
My setup is as follows:
Direct patch from mixer's master out to inputs on an Audiophile 2496 card. The output on the card is connected to the line in on the my sound card (standard issue card) via RCA to 1/8".
My basic playback/mixer device/software is a SiS 7018 Wave.
The hardware interface is a M Audio Delta panel, Driver 5.10.
As I said above, I'm recording my mixes through SoundForge 5.0.
This is giving me no end of hell as I cannot record anything that I would even consider sending out or trying to sell.
Any help on this issue would be sorely appreciated.

Why do you have 2 cards for one source of audio?
You should be going from your mixer directly into the audiophile. No other cables are necessary to get audio into your computer.
If i was you, i'd take out the noname soundcard all together for now.
If youre still having issues, try taking the audiophile card out of its pci slot and moving it to another slot.
But seriously, take out the cheap card and let the m-audio handle everything.

The master out from the mixer is still going into the audiophile card, but I've now bypassed the computer and ran the out jacks from the audiophile card directly into the sound system (I'm using a Boston Acoustics powered subwoofer/speaker combination). The only problem is that the splitter is not allowing decent output for either into the speaker.
I'll see what happens next...thanks for the advice.

i think you need a new mixer with an extra pair of outs. that way the sound would go out in two directions. one for monitoring, the other to recording into your computer:
audio -> mixer->mixer main outs -> maudio/puter
audio ->mixer -> mixer sub outs -> speakers

You don't need a new mixer, run your setup as follows.....
OUT of your dj mixer IN to your Delta card
OUT of your delta card IN to your monitors
You have to make sure that you have the correct assignments in the Delta Control Panel. ;)

spin How would I have to set up the control panel so I can get audio out into my sound card and out through my speakers?

yeah thats probably better anyways. change your computers settings to use the m-audio as your default soundcard for play back as well as record.

Okay, I've gotten your responses and I've made the recommended alterations. All that means is that I now have to go into the Delta panel and change whether I want to hear audio from the computer or the turntables.
If that corrects the problem with the ugly bass surges and crappy sound quality, I can live with having to do that.
I'll post a note when I know for sure.
Thanks for taking the time to help out!

I haven't been able to come back until now, but here is what has happened since.
When I record from my mixer (this happens using either AcidPro 4.0, SoundForge 6.0 or CoolEditPro 2.0), the sound is choppy or it sounds like the beats are speeding up and the general level of sound is pretty crappy.
I also still get those occasional bass distortion surges.
My Audio settings is that I'm recording using M Audio Delta AP 1/2.
The Audiophile is the default sound card.
Any help would be appreciated, though you all have done so much already.

Well, here goes for my first post in this section...
I also have the same card. Make sure the levels are down for all other inputs you are not using. You may be picking up stray humming from inside your computer (I had that problem before speaking with someone about that).
Also, if you haven't already, adjust the VU meters
on the display so they are in sync with the VU
meters on your mixer.
I'm currently at work. I'll send another message tonight and let you know what settings I have :

Hi again...
Here is what I have for settings :
Monitor Mixer tab
Master Volume - 0 highest setting
WavOut - 0 highest setting
WavOut S/PDIF - (-144) lowest setting
H/W In S/PDIF - (-144) lowest setting
H/W In 1/2 - 0 highest setting
Patchbay/Router tab
I use H/W In 1/2 when recording and WavOut 1/2
for playback.
Hardware Settings tab - defaults on installation
S/PDIF tab - I don't use S/PDIF at this time
As I mentioned in my last post, you may need to
adjust the master volume and H/W in according to
your mixer output.
Hope this helps,
