Hope some one may be able to help me with this 1 also. I used to use Cubase years ago and recentley Logic with a partner. I dont have loads of spare cash to flash, but I have a G4, usb interface (emagic). Free Pro tools and Peak vst, no midi interface. Couple of synths, drum machine. Can this potentially be got up and running to create basic recordings? I dont quite understand the relevance of the VST. Any help here would be most appreciated.

sure, you can multitrack your synths and drummachines into protools... dunno about the midi capabilities of protools free, but if these are available you could try adding a midi interface and triggering your synths and drumcomputer from midi....

nope, but why use anything you don't know what to use it for?
just ask yourself what you want to do, and find the tools to do it with..

Marki, this is a great tip to start out with. A lot people get so caught up in try to get the latest stuff that they forget about actually recording some music.......

Thanx again. C I had peak installed by my mate so I could record my mixes into my mac and get them onto cd through toast. I was just unsure of the potential of peak, because I have trouble understanding the manuals which tend to go into great technical detail. From the time I was writing electronic music using an Apple or Atari an Cubase, to popping around to mates to have a bash on Logic, a lot seemed to have changed in a short space of time.
Cheers

Are you planning on recording musicians/??
Maybe the Pro Tools part is a little overspecified,, think about it. You might want to buy some nice soundmodules for that money
