We are delighted to welcome the Godfather of Uk Electrofunk to this one off event.

This will be Greg's first club set in Newcastle, and his first appearance in town since he demonstrated the art of scratch mixing, live on 'The Tube' which was broadcast in 1983.

During a self imposed exile from clubland, Greg has been involved in managing and producing well respected recording artists, and compiling the Classic Electro Mastercuts compilation.

Due to the emergence of nights such as Music Is Better, and Society, and the overwhelming feedback he has received from his appearances there, Greg is currently in the process of resuming his dj’ing career after almost 20 years.

Anyone who has been fortunate to witness Greg over the last few months, or has had the pleasure of hearing any of his mixes, either on his website - electrofunkroots.co.uk, or from buying the edited hightlights of his set from Music Is Better will be aware of the mans special talent....

This event will be held over 3 rooms - and hosted by some of Newcastle's finest dj's.

Duke Boks (Hipcheck).

Lee Bolton (Proton Radio) and Justin Mills (Reverb).

People Get Real.

Tickets will cost £8, and available from RPM records.

Hours - 10pm til 2am

Anymore info required, please contact 586

All out of towners welcome..........

SUONO / TYNESIDE CINEMA - NEWCASTLE 10.07.04

When Antony Daly approached me about doing this night back in February, as I was playing at the Society / Scuba party in Sheffield (where, coincidently, I’ll be making a return appearance this Saturday coming), he explained that there wasn’t really much happening in Newcastle when it came to the underground dance scene, but he felt that with the right DJ’s, venue and promotion, that he could put together a successful party.

He was true to his word, for this was a brilliant night!

First and foremost, I’m so pleased for Tony and everyone else involved with Suono, as all their hard work and attention to detail paid off big time! More than anything, Suono was proof that what you put into something is what you get out of it. Everything from the artwork through to the press coverage suggested that no corners had been cut in their efforts to make this a memorable party. In the week leading up to it, local publications, Metro and the Chronicle, both included sizeable pieces, and on the morning of the event, The Guardian Guide named Suono as its pick of the week and included an impressive write-up in their Preview section. Suffice to say that the night sold out and people, I’m sure, will be talking about it for a long time to come.

The venue was superb, a refurbished 1930s Art Deco cinema in the city centre. The party was held over two floors, with People Get Real, Justin Mills and Lee Bolton taking care of business in the two first floor rooms, whilst Duke Boks and I were in the main cinema room on the second floor.

The lined-up rows of front facing seats gave the room a really different vibe to a normal club type environment, but there was a large area in front of the stage, which made an ideal dancefloor. By the time I started my spot at midnight, the Duke had built up a great atmosphere and the room was packed to capacity.

I’d put together a compilation of dance clips, which were projected onto the big screen behind me while I played. Every now and then I’d turn around and check out the images, which looked fantastic. I almost wish I could have jumped off the stage for a few minutes to get the full-hit, as later on everyone was telling me how effective they were, and how well they worked with the music. I obviously had a great time playing to such an enthusiastic room. This was the first time I’ve deejayed at a club in Newcastle, the only previous occasion I’d spun records in the city was in February 1983, when I demonstrated live mixing for the first time on UK TV, during Channel 4’s ‘The Tube’.

Having been such an overwhelming success, plans are already underway for another event later this year and I can’t wait to make the trip back up to the North-East for Suono The Sequel!
