10.17.2003 - Darshan Jesrani (Metro Area, Environ)
Every so often a dj plays an incredible set, one that's talked about for months afterwards. Around this time last year, Darshan Jesrani did
just that at Open Door. This week, we are excited to welcome Darshan back to DC. With partner Morgan Geist, Metro Area burst upon the scene in
1999 with their self-entitled release instantly achieving a cult following with the hit "Atmospherique". Their production work is as unique as
it is breathtaking, combining the mood of early 80s R&B and classic disco with the cutting edge sounds of house and techno. Since their first
release, Metro Area has been releasing many important records into the underground. With "Pina" they experiment with a juxtaposition of live
instruments and analog synths. "Caught Up" is perhaps their most seminal release, garnishing worldwide acclaim and respect for the duo. With the
proceeding "Muira", Metro Area cemented their status as producers pushing the boundaries of music that at once moves the feet and challenges the
dance floor's cerebral elements. They've gone on to tour across the country and around the world. Darshan's unpredictable, moving sets are known
for his amazing track selection and brilliant programming. Since his DC debut last October, Darshan has gone on to release Metro Area's first
feature length album to worldwide acclaim. Their success, much to their own chagrin, has garnered them "Best New Artist Album" at The American
Dance Music Awards, among many other accolades too lengthy to list here. While we all eagerly await Darshan's next production effort, be sure to
catch him djing this Friday at Open Door.
