7.11.2003 | Pal Joey
After taking off for the 4th Open Door returns this Friday in full swing to welcome legendary DJ and producer Pal Joey - the NYC conductor, Ambassador
of house, the NYC Darling - for his Washington, DC debut dj performance. With well over 100 released productions and remixes
(full discography (http://www.paljoeymusic.com)), it is nearly impossible to not to have been influenced by his work. Everyone who has been
to a club in the past 10 years may be familiar with Soho "Hot Music", Earth People "Dance", or Beautiful People "I Got the Rhythm". Also of note is
his 17 volume series on Loop-D-Loop, most recently including "Thong Test". Rawness, emotional directness, and deep dancefloor energy are common themes
in his numerous dance music productions - covering synth fueled house, soul and jazz influenced tracks, and just about everything in between. However,
Pal Joey's production skills aren't limited to the underground. He has produced many hiphop gems including Shabba Ranks featuring KRS-1 "The Jam" on
Epic, MC Lyte "Take it Off" on Atlantic, even Dee Lite's "How Do You Say... Love" on Elektra. His production work continues to challenge modern house
boundaries with works such as the lush vocal cut Lascivious "So Nice To See You" on Central Park, the deep hypnotic vibes of OPM "****ing with You" on
Coco Machete, or his remix of Three Kings "Shake That Booty" on Coco Machete. He has lent his remixing skills to artists such as Sade and The Orb.
Outside of the studio, Pal Joey is a self-described "party dj", digging deep in the crates to rock a party without regard to arbitrary boundaries set
by musical genres. Considering all the places that Pal Joey has played over the years, it is surprising and amazing that he has never played in DC
before. This Friday, Open Door proudly welcomes Pal Joey to DC for a highly anticipated, stress free night of good friends, good vibes, and great
music!
