some years back, eric (you know him as djmarbll) recommended i check out portishead and omar...portishead wasn't my thing (they got me much too lethargic and depressed), but i've been swingin' on omar since...

there isn't lots he's made that i don't like - even his regular stuff beats anything on the top billboard charts...

but where are his fans? not many folk seem to be up on him...

Certainly not. Omar came to Chicago last month, and after the show, we partied! Mad graemlins/respekt.gif for Omar over here!

I was a HUGE fan of "There's Nothing Like This". I never got too many of his records, though. I did get the EP that he put out like a year or two ago, which I really liked as well. He's got a great voice.

I'll never forget watching 5 seconds of beverly Hills 90210 once, and catching that super lame Brian Austin Green listening to Omar. Shannon Dougherty asks what he's listening to, and he very cooly replies "It's Omar, yo! He's mad large in Europe!" (Brian Austin Green was the wannabe-rapper, if you recall). It was hilarious.

Omar also does the theme song for a British comedy called "Chef," starring Lenny Henry, that can be seen on PBS/public television in the U.S. and Canada.

The extended version of "There's Nothing Like This" with all the jazz guitar sweep-picking ruled!

"...it's a SERIOUS...SERIOUS PROFESSION..."

it should be a full-recording...

Lenny Henry is a funny guy, quite local to these parts.

Omar, massive here on Talking Loud , not really sure about his more recent stuf. Nothing like this is probably the biggest track, loveley summer cut.

I know lots and lots of Omar fans. An appreciation for Bro. Lye-Fook seems to be a ticket into some circles. I know it has been a vetting question for at least two brothers I've dated. Now I think the great unsung shero of the British Black Underground is Jhelisa Anderson. "Indigo Mooods," anyone?

I love the old Nothing Like It LP. I had to order it from England when it came out, ouch, $$$, as it had poor distribution over here as a new release.
