Muslim Groups Demand an Apology from X-Men Director, Bryan Singer
Project Islamic H.O.P.E., a prominent Muslim civil rights group, along with a
coalition of Islamic organizations, demands an apology from X-Men director,
Bryan Singer. They are also demanding that the anti-Islamic propaganda from
his latest film be removed before "X2: X-Men United" is released on DVD.
Najee Ali explains, "Within the first 5 minutes of 'X2: X-Men United,' an
evil villain, 'Colonel William Stryker' is in the White House signing a
document. As he signs, he is shown wearing a ring featuring the Arabic symbol
for 'Allah.' Colonel Stryker was never depicted as a Muslim in the comic
book series... We feel this is a subtle but obvious attack on Islam."
According to one online biography of Bryan Singer, one interviewer labeled
him as "young Hollywood's great Jewish hope."
Najee Ali notes, "Prejudice and bias are the themes throughout the 'X-Men'
movies as well as in the comic book series. It is*unfortunate, as we continue
to live in a post 9-11 world, that Bryan Singer would engage in a subtle
campaign to breed intolerance and hate. This is what the X-Men always fought
against! American Muslims and Jews should work together to end bias and
discrimination."
that's funny cause i noticed that ring and it does look like an islamic symbol

hmmmmm.....they may have a point, especially since there was a closeup on the ring for at least 2 or 3 seconds. Usually, I say they are just making noise about nothing, but they may just have a case here.
By the way, I thought it was a really good entertaining movie for those who love X-Men....the more mutans, the better.

That film grossed over 85 million this past weeknd, putting it in the top 4 for biggest opening weekends ever.I think the subliminal message got across very well. It's like that in all films and tv.Some folks will catch the bs and some folks will eat it up.

"symbol for Allah" There is no symbol to my knowledge for Allah other than his name in Arabic. I have not seen this film but I supose the ring must say "Allah" in Arabic. "Allah" simply means God. Arabic speaking Jews and Christians refer to God/Lord/Creator as Allah as well. I'd like to see this movie now. Maybe it was mean to be a jab. Who knows?

Allah is a derivative of the name for a pre-Islamic pantheistic deity called Al-lah that represented the sun. In the pantheon, Al-lah was "most high" of all the gods. When the most powerful tribe - the Quraish - were converted to Muhammad's doctrine, a caveat was made that allowed the name Al-lah to serve as the representation for the name of the monotheistic god.
Notice how Allah is referred to as "The Most High", yet, if there is "no god but Allah", then that "Most High" title is a bit irrevalent. This is a hold over from when Al-lah was the ranking deity in the pantheon.

I think they should proceed with their protest.
Just like Black and Spanish people being portrayed as crooks in the movies, TV and news..have you noticed that the TV/Movie terrorists are primarily Arab and slightly Irish?!?!
The real terrorist are you know who..and they control Hollywood...so put that where you can smoke it..

First there were the "Indians", then the Germans, the Japanese, the Koreans, The Russians, the Vietnese, Black people, people from the middle east, white men, the Irish, back to the people from the middle east, now back to black men. WHo's next?
When a someone from a particular race does something to this country, the fools up in Hollywood have to make a movie.

What a bull**** protest. Both X1 and 2 was the bomb. The X-Man concept (comic book and both movies) is all about addressing the question of differences in our society, and understanding, tolerating and appreciating them.

I thought X-men 1 was bullshit. I can honestly say I could have made a better movie. I grew up collecting X-men and I love Marvel, but the casting was wack and man I could have done alot better with the same budget.
I would have:
1. Not casted Halle Berry as storm and cast someone else because it takes little talent to portray storm cus she never talks and reallocate the MUCHO $$$ to casting other actor's.
2. Either Danzig or Harvey Kietel as Wolverine
3. And add Arnold Shwartzenegger as Colosus
4. Captain Pickard does not quite do it for me as Professor X

It's a fair enough portrail of mutated life-forms, the only thing is, they are all pretty sexy for mutants, not a John Merrick amongst them - keep it real Hollywood!

The Star Wars franchise is over. Once the two Matrix flicks come out, you might as well nail the coofin shut on Star Wars. From the looks of it, George is in for a huge wake up call and he's gonna pay dealy with Episode 3. If the shit is cut down to only two hours, expect a huge backlash from the fans.

I was really into the cartoon version of X-Men in the early nineties and I had a friend that could draw his ass off. One of them got permission to draw a picture on the art room wall of the high school we attended. He decided to draw a huge picture of Storm. The first thing I said to him was, "Damn that looks just like Iman."

I saw the movie last night. I must really be blind because I couldn't see no images on the ring when they showed it. All I saw was the ring.

Well, the people that created the movie frachise WAS thinking of making a part 3. The cat that played Wolverine said he would do it. Halle Berry said she opt out. If there would be a part 3(seriously doubt it) maybe they could get IMAN.

*SHAKING HEAD*
I didn't want to post....
But y'all are forcing my typing fingers...
Anyhoo... first off I'm a REAL FAN of the comic. Which means I didn't see the first X-men movie at the movies... anyone that would cast Halle Berry as storm cannot have my $10.00!!!! Storm was a woman of African beauty... obvious casting choice ANGELA BASSETT. The great beauty of storm was that her beauty was like all aspect of nature. Gripping, intriguing and mysterious. Thus, the platinum hair... hair like the color of snow. Beauty of such force... like tornado. Storm herself was like mother nature and the forces of nature: A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH!
Moving on...
Great choice for Wolverine and Professor X (I mean you can't go wrong with Jean Luc Picard now can you!)... I will give them that much. Now, when I did see the movie... it was a bit of an actual bore... I would've much rather re-read all my old comics from back in the day.
As for the protest ... I think the Muslims do have a case. Simple. In lieu of everything that has happened, it's obvious to me that the new villian is the Middle Eastern man with the suitcase... (pardon me for being so non-PC). It used to be the dark Black man coming down the dark alley way. Or the Boriqua that always had a knife ready for a fight... now it's the Muslims community. They should protest.
The End.
for the record my last post was sarcastic, in response to the hispanic janitor comment.
