Its spring and i'm seeing weigh too many overweight black women and girls....i mean just cause you're packing a big ass don't mean a gut gotta come with it! an when its all encased in spandex or lycra - sheesh, i'm reminded of an overdone sausage
incendiaries aside...obesity and being overweight lead to diabetes and high blood pressure which are huge diseases in our community....even the mackadocious one, THE KING (thats me) has lost weight ....also the excess poundage is usually indicative of poor physical conditioning....and whats worse studies are showing that young girls (particularly black and latino) are getting less than 2 hours of physical activity a week and after 15 NONE at all...thats just ridiculous
i for one like a physically fit woman who can withsatnd the marathon love punishment sessions that i will subject her to so she has to be in shape
get thee to a gymmery

Right of the bat, yes, I am sensitive about my weight, but not for the reasons you may think.
Right now I have no excuse. I eat to much and move too little, plain and simple. But I've almost always been overweight and it was almost never because of poor diet and lack of excercise. Back in the day I used to work ut 14 hours a week, (That's up there with professional athletes.) and take in 800-900 calories a day (800 is the recommended minimum for an adult) to MAINTAIN 215lbs. AND I used to run rings around the thinny-thin joggers who dared take me on in racquetball. So I get a little heated when someone suggest a person or group of people "lose weight" as though, a) it's just that easy or, 2) overweight is necessarily caused by bad habits.
No doubt the mass of people in this country need to improve their diet and fitness level, but realize also that the majority of people in this country are overweight, so there must be more to it than bad habits alone.

Did you know that there are just as many non-black women that are overweight? The reason you don't see it much because these non-Black women are more sensitive and not confident of their beauty whether it's 10 - 100 lbs overweight. I have gained weight over the years, got 4 children and as history has it the women in my family are not thin, but in shape, healthy and no sickness or disease. The smaller women in the family took ill and died. But for the most part I have a 69 year old grandma that does cardio everyday (210 lbs), 3 great aunts that are over 80 and never been small until age got to them.
Nevertheless their is a problem but don't direct it to only the Black women.
Guess what? Most of the time these overwieght women are stressed from a self-righteous, self-centered, high and mighty Black man who believes his Shit don't stink and keep throwing in their face how fat they are instead of encouraging them.

I'm totally into this discussion as I have recently made changes in my life to take better care of myself. I never got "fat", but I am not nearly as thin as I was when I was 21. I want to feel good again, I don't want to be out of breath from walking up one flight of stairs, I wanna feel "alive" instead of tired all the time, and ****ing feel good cause I look hot too.
Star Jones is setting a bad example for the sisters telling them it's all good to be fat as long as you feel good. I don't believe that shit one bit. She is an excessive eater and a lazy ass. How do I know? My friend worked on the show and that bitch eats like a box of doughnuts for self before the show even starts. Not kidding...

usually ya ain't "big boneded" you're fuggin fat

Also started drink water all day long.
I am cutting back on alcohol tremendously.
Stopped eating late. Stopped eating excessively.
Only whole wheat bread, don't need no extra carbs.
Stopped eating fried food almost completely. But of course I will occasionally dabble, I gotta live!
Started skateboarding again to get that cardio type of excercise.

I've been on a low carb low sugar diet and lost 10 pounds within a months time. Most of the weight loss was from water in my system.
Skinless chicken grilled, grilled fish, a steak once in a while, but no bread or pasta.
Vegetables such as brocolli, string beans, squash, peppers.
Olive oil to saute vegetables and I use garlic to infuse the the oils from the cloves and the olive oil.
I've been drinking alot of unsweetened grapfruit juice but I need to drink more water.
I also cut down on my intake of soft drinks especially Mountain Dew.
Now if I can make time to get out to the gym, I'd be set!!
Peace

NO MHD, I for one ain't fat. I have gained weight because of child bearing and inheritance graemlins/rofl.gif . The women in my family aren't really fat but are 1-2 sizes bigger than they were in their youth. But I've known of many Black women gain weight due to stress involving their mates and the stuff they took them through. True enough we need to learn to let go and live. But alot of women eat away their troubles and before they know it they are too big to move. I may have gained 20- 40 lbs in the last 10 years but I'd never had a health problem and always conscience of it because of my mom.
So, many peeps are overweight and underweight that have many health concerns. So the overall problem is honoring your body as a temple and remember that is the only one you will have ever.

the proof is (not) in in the pudding...measure your bodyfat and see if you are what you should be
talk is cheap
when i decided to get healthy and get in shape i checked myself ( cause i want brutal honesty - even with myself) ....if you're bodyfat is too high iyt's too high and excercises in rhetoric won't change that fact
ps bodyfat is the proper measurement tool not bmi imo

As I stated before I am comfortable with the size I am (I could stand to lose 30 lbs) My doctors gave me a clean bill and I must watch my blood levels because I have low blood sugar and could be anemic. The only real problem I have is carrying children and having problems delivering because of my body frame not weight. My mom had problems with us as well.

I won't eliminate any red meat from my diet but I have cut down on pork. Red meat is a good source if Iron and at one time I was very anemic.
One thing you guys may consider is checking out your spending for a couple of months and see where you can eliminate wasted cash.
A few weeks ago I looked through my bank statements and reciepts and I was avering close to 55 dollars a month on junk food. Micky Ds, Burger King, Taco Bell, you name it. At the same time I was spending close to 80 dollars on groceries. Talk about a waste.
Since there's only one person in my house and my son comes on the weekends, I cut my grocery bill down to about 65 dollars a month as a result of my diet. Chicken and beef being the most expensive part of the bill and fruits and vegetables being the cheapest.
Peace

You know, the funny thing is, I don't like milk (I use NDC in my coffee, even in restaurants)and I'm not big on bread. I could live on meat and veggies for the most part -- oh, and cake!
I've gain stoopid weight over the last 8.5 years for a number of reasons:
- Car accident brought my gym time to a dead halt.
- Lingering problems form soft tissue damage limit my ability to excercise (I'm one of those people who loves to work out, BTW).
- Changes in family size/living arrangements at the same time as the accident impeded adjustments (basically, I was in an accident 4 days after adopting a mate and 2 kids).
- I no longer cook or control the household food buying/cooking (and consequently, eating).
- I'm old.
- Lots of controversy associated with this new family (courts/hospitals/doctors/public and social service agencies and, of course, time constraints) causing massive stress and comfort eating.
- Foot problems that were getting increasingly worse even before the accident, probably developing as a resulting from the time spent working out (3-6 hours of racquetball, 4 hours of karate, 3-6 of lifting - including weight-bearing excercises for the feet, ankles, and calfs, biking - hard on the feet when you're pedalling a lot of weight, and random afternoons on the asphalt and/or concrete paddleball courts --- I really miss all that).
Now here I am 100lbs later. People who see me walking down the street probably think "She's has a pretty face but she needs to do some push-aways."
It's a lot easier to manage your weight when you have the latitude to set and keep your schedule, monitor and control the food that comes into the house and relax when the stress starts building. Most people in families don't have that kind of latitude. My best friend can't keep weight on for the same reasons I can't keep it off. She gets stress and her stomach turns against her.
