DUI: Dancin' under the influence...

One of the most frustrating things on the dancefloor is trying to enjoy yourself surrounded by people who are too high on drugs or liquor. These people simply kinda stand there, taking up space, and bobb up and down, or side to side, not really dancing. And when someone comes along who dances soulfylly, creatively, they stare like creatures from Dawn of the Dead. Also, what is this shit with people who gather in groups on the dancefloor who simply talk and chat, or who use the dancefloor as a short cut to the other side of the room?

I would say simply that the club experience is alot of things, including being social and for many, getting lit on drugs. Dancing is part of the recipe also. Taking your dancing seriously is a great thing, but just remember is not all about you or those that want to show their moves. Shit, I'm no great dancer, but I like the club...

i personally hate it when people r in my way when im jammin.
i was told that in other countries people talk, drink, smoke on the dance floor.
i do not do that for i am an old loft and garage head and hit the dance floor to dance. sometimes in a room with great sound i'll take a moment and take in the purity of sounds but then i'll jam on.
though it does irk me for people to take up space and stare, drink talk etc. i've learned to adapt.
as for as needing a boost to party: get lit before i go and/or go outside and partake in some goodies.

I remember back in the 80's at Frankie Knuckles' loft Warehouse, people were getting so f***ed up you didn't need to directly indulge just take a few deep inhales. While drugs were a part of the party scene, I didn't then and still don't now need to get high to get high. I close my eyes and go someplace else when the right DJ takes me there!

I agree with you that the club experience is all of the dancing, the music..the drinking..getting high..but I guess if it was a perfect dance world everybody would know their limitations and know how to not fuck up the vibe or enter into somebody's elses personal space, while still trying to get their experience. I remember the days when I used to get so f____d up that I couldn't even see straight and now in hindsight know that I was a hot mess and probably was interfering with someone else's fun. So now, I don't get that high and I really do love to dance. If I see someone really drunk, I just move out of there way and just wish for the the best. Sometime I even helped out. Like if somebody was going through it, I helped them sit down and get straight..or put them in a cab. I guess just when I see a person comatose, I just try to understand it and not let it bother me and go somewhere else so I can have my fun...dance and sweat until my clothes are dripping.

IMO, I’d rather they didn't sell or serve alcohol at the party. I’m not against drinking and don’t mind the BYOBB policy but I find that when there isn’t a bar onsite, those who would prefer to get drunk go somewhere else thus leaving those of us who choose to lose it through the music more room to do so. I come to dance; to play with others (through the dance) and I’d prefer to do it on a dry floor.

If I had a couple of drinks I feel more relaxed and I will dance longer. If I am sober I am more of a wallflower. Plus I think I dance better when I got a mean buzz! What about you!?
